Lanoux wins seat on Parish Court bench

Erin Wiley Lanoux

Erin Wiley Lanoux won the seat on Ascension’s Parish Court bench last night, comfortably besting Kim Landry to succeed Judge Marilyn Lambert who is stepping aside after two decades of service.  Landry more than held her own among voters in the densely populated northwest corner of Ascension where new residents outnumber parish natives.  Lanoux’s support in and around the City of Gonzales, combined with a 2,256 lead in early voting, resulted in a 5,880 vote margin (58-42%).

An ancillary effect of Tuesday’s vote, six-term Sheriff Jeff Wiley is stepping down to avoid any appearance of impropriety since his department is the arresting agency, issues so many of the traffic citations over which a parish court judge presides.  What impact it had on the race will be fodder for pundits to digest as parish-wide elections for sheriff and three other offices are scheduled for October 12, 2019.
