Shots fired at Gonzales PD officers again…suspects at large

Gonzales, LA – At approximately 2:47 a.m. this morning, City of Gonzales Police Officers pulled over a vehicle they felt was driving suspiciously in the Orice Roth area of the city. When the vehicle came to a halt during the traffic stop, two black males inside the vehicle exited and began fleeing the scene. During this time, one male fired three shots at the officers in pursuit.

After a search conducted of the wood line of the Oak Terrace area did not turn up either suspect, a perimeter was set up with the assistance of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Air Patrol was provided by Baton Rouge City Police, and K-9 support from Baton Rouge City Police and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the proximity of the incident to Gonzales Middle School, school officials were contacted. For this reason, there will be a delayed start time at the school until 9:23 a.m.

The suspects are still at large, but officials are confident that the school is not in harm’s way, and a Shelter in Place within the area was lifted at 7:05 a.m.

Citizens are asked to remain vigilant, and call 225.621.8300 if they see anyone acting suspiciously.

We will update you as more information becomes available.
