Library presents: Bicycling the Oregon Trail

The Oregon Trail was a 2,170 mile wagon route that stretched from Missouri to the modern state of Oregon.  From the 1830’s to the 1870’s more than 400,000 men, women, and children crossed six states to settle the west coast of the United States.

Every summer from 2012 to 2016, Gonzales resident Don Weinell followed in the tracks of those early pioneers by bicycling from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon, following the original Oregon Trail as closely as possible.  In 2017 he turned his epic journey into a book titled Bicycling the Oregon Trail.

On Saturday, January 20 at 2:00 PM, Mr. Weinell will be at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales to share the incredible story of his 2,000 mile trek across the western half of the United States.
